The EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (OECA) has announced six National Enforcement and Compliance Initiatives (NECIs) for Fiscal Years 2024-2027. These initiatives address critical environmental and public health challenges, incorporating environmental justice considerations to ensure equitable benefits. The six NECIs cover various areas: reducing climate change contributors, controlling PFAS contamination, mitigating coal ash risks, improving air quality in overburdened communities, ensuring clean drinking water, and preventing chemical accidents. These initiatives utilize the full scope of EPA’s enforcement and compliance tools to protect vulnerable communities and promote a sustainable future. The EPA’s comprehensive approach aims to tackle significant environmental problems across air, water, and toxics, ultimately contributing to a healthier planet and more sustainable practices.
